Leadup to NovaJulia Expedition

This post documents the start of a recent thread of work with the Julia variant of the Nova fractal. I usually explore the Mandelbrot variants so I was hoping to find something a little different here.

To begin with I put out some maps - just to see the lay of the land:





Just above and to the left of those blue things I noticed some interesting squareish bits, so I went after those briefly:









Taking a step back I went past this interesting mandelbubble - with the main cardioid outlined. This was something I haven't seen before, so I took a look around:



A hint of things to come, I hadn't realized at this stage that each of those little embedded julias were closed and built from other tiny julias - in outer-mandelfield regions at least:





Looking back again I found this, the mandelfield at the very start of a long and fruitful trail:



What was happening on the edge? I took a closer look:



And this is where I finally clocked the first hints of something gorgeous:
